A photo contest is also held during the exhibition. In 2023, about 1,000 entries were submitted by exhibition-goers, amateur photographers, and professionals. Participants are challenged to snap creative images of the plum bonsai or the venue, and photos are accepted in three categories: “Print,” “Digital,” and “Instagram.” Certain trees, such as Rinkō, are especially popular subjects. The yearly prizes include hotel stays, regional goods, and a top prize of ¥50,000.
