What is Bonbai?

Bonbai refers to potted plums, or plum bonsai.
At the Nagahama Bonbai Exhibition, about 90 pots out of about 300 pots will be displayed in a purely Japanese-style tatami room, depending on the blooming period.
Some of the trees are huge, nearly three meters tall, and some are said to be 400 years old.

The Nagahama Bonbai Exhibition began in 1950, and this year marks the 73rd time.
It is a popular New Year's tradition.
